You will need goods from the age you are in for research in the next three ages you will have to have bronze age goods to unlock some in high middle ages. Note: It is good to build a stash of at least 1,500 of each goods of the age your in before aging up that 1,500 increases to 10,000 when you enter progressive.
After you get your friends tavern finished upgrading, coin boost everyday or every other day is a something good to do and will always be a good use for coins in the game. Tavern boost with St Marks Cathedral (SMC) boost may be enough to get extra gather x-amount of coins quests done
GBs make the game easier. The higher they are leveled, the easier it gets. Some of the GBs are disposable.. meaning that after the age they are from to maybe two more ages they are good for what they made for, after that, just wasted space. But this is your game and if you like the way they look and what they are doing for you, definitely keep them. When the know-it-alls tell you its worthless... you can let them know its only worthless to them.
